This week in reading we read Sneezy the Snowman. With it we discussed how to build a snowman, they drew pictures and wrote how to build a snowman in order. We discussed cause and effect, students identified the cause (hot cocoa, hot tub, fire) and the effect (sneezy melted). We also worked on the order of the book, what happened first-seventh. Students also worked on a sheet to tell how else sneezy could be just right, not to hot and not to cold. And, we ended with creating a melted snowman, and writing an alternate ending for sneezy.

In math this week we continued to work in our math journals. We practiced adding one more, and roll to make a snowman (rolled dice and drew what that number represented). We worked on measurement, students had to decorate the biggest snowman in each group, and measure snowflakes with cubes and write the number for how many cubes. We did a review on shapes, and they had to color certain shapes on each page, and we even made shapes out of playdough.

This week in writing we also combined social studies and we focused on MLK Jr. We read books and watched videos on him and all he has done, and had some great discussions. Students got to label a picture of MLK Jr., as well as did a word sort with Dream, Speech, and fair. Students also worked on writing sentences about MLK Jr. and worked on starting with capital letter, putting spaces between words, and ending with punctuation. We ran out of time for their dream project (what their dream is), so we will work on it Monday.

We went to science lab this week and talked about living, non living, and once living. Mrs. Knobbe asked students what things needed to to be alive, and how we know if something was once living. She had planned on us going outside and finding items that were living, non living, and once living, but the weather was not so great. We still were able to go out under the awnings and find a few things. Thank you to the volunteers that come and help, it is really appreciated!

So, it is that time of year that germs are still all over and spreading. We do ask the students to wash their hands a lot and use sanitizer, as well as wipe down tables, and clean the classroom. With that being said we are low on Lysol wipes. If you would like to donate them we would be so grateful!
