Image result for reading

In reading this quarter we will continue to work on sight words students should know up to 50 by the end of the quarter. Some fun ways to work on these (other than just flash cards) is write them in sand and say them. Hide the cards around house and have them find them and tell what they are. Sight word bingo, or sight word basketball, show word and if they get it right they shoot the ball if not you get to shoot the ball. Put the words of the week on bedroom door and have them read them before they enter their room. There are also tons of ideas on pinterest.

Also, read with your students every night. Take turns reading with them, you read a page they read a page. Find books that interest them. Ask them questions throughout the book, who are the characters? Where is the setting? What is the problem/solution? Have them tell you about a story read in class.

Image result for writing

In writing this quarter we will continue to work on forming the letters. Students should be able to write all the letters uppercase and lowercase independently. We will also continue working on sounding out and writing words. Have your students practice writing words at home, and having them write what they hear. We will also continue working on writing sentences and making sure we start with an uppercase, put spaces between words, and end with punctuation.

Image result for Math

In math this quarter we will continue to work on counting. Students should be able to consistently and independently count to 100 by ones and tens. Students will also need to count as many as 20 objects in a line, rectangular array, or circle. We will continue to work on counting two sets of objects and identify if one set is more, less, or equal. We will start working on adding and subtracting within 5. We did a pre-test this week and I was impressed with how well students did. We will also work on addition and subtraction word problems.

Image result for science and social studies
In science this quarter we will start discussing living and nonliving organisms. Students will have to identify whether an item is living or nonliving and sort into groups based on attributes. We will also work on describing the physical attributes of Earth materials (soil, rocks, water, and air).

In social studies we will continue to learn about American holidays, Martin Luther King, Jr., Presidents Day. We will also learn about American Symbols, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and White House. We will continue to work on positive character traits, and what it means to be a good citizen.
