10/28-11/01/19

Image result for important information

  • Today we sent Agendas, letter and sight word sheets, and other important information in 3 ring binders. We got rid of the purple folders as they were breaking. I showed the students and explained that the white binders are replacing the purple folders. I hope this works out better.

  • Today we also sent home our next field trip note. We are not taking any extra chaperones as this is an event that is paid by seat and has limited seating. We have sent them home now and are asking for money by Nov. 14th (a month before) because the venue wants payment before we go.

  • The school has also asked that we inform parents that they are working on having all payments being made electronically on My Payments Plus. you can go to http://www.mypaymentsplus.com/ and register.

This week in reading we read The Night Before Halloween. This was just a fun book that got the kids excited for the week. We worked on characters and setting, students picked out their favorite character and setting, as there were many. Students worked on writing about their favorite part of the story, beginning middle and end, and syllable count. Ask your students how we counted out syllables.

In math this week we worked on some fun halloween activities. We worked on counting and graphing halloween objects. We made greater than and less than books. On Thursday for Halloween we measured objects with candy corn, and after got to eat some. Today they made jack o'lanterns with shapes, and had to count/graph how many of each shape they used. Going into next week we will start working more on greater than/less than/and equal to.

This week in writing we learned about spiders and wrote about them. Each day we read a book or watched a video and students filled out a fact sheet on spiders. Today we put all of the sheets together and made spider books. Ask your students something they learned about spiders? Be on the look out for the spider books on Monday, we will be sending them home. Next, week we will start talking about letters, words, and sentences, and how we use letters to make words, and words to make sentences. Writing is not a favorite for a lot of students, and especially now as we are making them try and sound out what they want to write on their own. Please encourage your students to try sounding out words to write at home. It can be about anything that they enjoy, just want them to be practicing. The more they do it, the better they will get, and hopefully the more they will like it.

In science this week we visited the science lab and the students had a lot of fun learning about different types of motion. In class we experimented with pumpkins. Students got to measure the length, and width of their groups pumpkin. They counted how many lines was on their pumpkin. We opened them up and they had to count how many seeds they pulled out (this was not a favorite for some, but I was so proud of them for doing it). We even filled a large tub with water and asked the students if they thought the pumpkin would sink or float. They were all shocked when it didn't sink!
