ALL ITEMS ARE NEEDED BY NEXT FRIDAY (12/13/19)

This week in reading we read Moostletoe. I Love Holidays so we will be reading lots of fun holiday books. The activities we worked on this week with this book were, character/setting, problem/solution, beginning/middle/end, and what they do to help during the holidays (connection to real life). Ask your students about some of these activities we did in class and see if they can tell you what they learned. Students also got to create a moose, ask them what the moose was decorated as? 

This week in math we worked on counting to 100 (by ones, twos, fives, tens) and measuring using non-standard tools. First we worked on putting ourselves in size order from biggest to smallest. Then students worked on a flower garden putting the flowers in order from smallest to biggest. Students also got to work on measuring different objects with counters. We will continue working on measurement next week but focus on weight. 

In writing this week we continued working on learning/writing about turkeys and bald eagles. Students finished writing facts they learned about turkeys, and labeled and wrote facts about bald eagles. Then as a class we made a venn diagram and compared the turkey and bald eagle. We also continued to work on writing sentences, starting with a capital letter, making spaces between words, and ending with punctuation. 

 

Students got to go to science lab this week and had so much fun. They got to make paper airplanes and had to make it from one spot to another. They had to start with thinking of a design and drawing it out, creating it, testing it out, taking it back to fix, and try again, then draw a picture of their final product. 

For social studies we will continue learning about holidays. So far we have learned about Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving. The next few weeks we will learn about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza.

This week we read Today is Thanksgiving. We discussed different traditions our families have (watching the parade and football, being with family, eating a feast, etc.). We also talked about or different senses we use during thanksgiving (smell the turkey, see our family, taste the pie, feel a football, hear the parade). Students also, did some writing on what they are thankful for. 

In math this week we continued to work on counting (by ones, twos, fives, and tens), more and less, and introduced a little on measuring. We will really dive into different ways to measure when we get back from break. 

In writing this week we worked on writing the letter R upper and lowercase. We worked on writing our sight words (big, by, be). We worked on how to write a sentence (start with an uppercase, letters make words, putting spaces between words, and punctuation). We also labeled a turkey and wrote what we are thankful for.
